Hydroelectric Energy

                     Hydroelectric Dam

A hydroelectric dam basically generates electricity by turning a turbine with running water.

1)   The potential energy stored in the water is converted into kinetic energy when it flow through the penstock

2)   The force of the kinetic energy from the flowing water then turns the turbine.

3)   The water goes into the outflow river after turning the turbine.

4)   The turbine then turn, generating electricity which goes through the generator.

5)   Then it passes through the powerlines to our home!

Disadvatanges of the hydroelectric plants

          1) It makes use of large amount of space and destroy forests the home of some animals

         2) It emits some carbon dioxide gases into the air although it does not make use of fossil fuels as some gases are leaked during manufacturing

3)Unfortunately the water in the world is decreasing due to global warming and the melting of the icebergs
